The Challenge

A startup built around Roger’s Mushrooms — the wild mushroom and fungi identification work of a renowned mycologist — needed a way to bring decades of expert-collected photography and species data to mushroom hunters as a practical field tool. The catalogue itself was the hard part: more than 2,600 photographs spanning 1,650 fungi species, collected in the wild across Europe and North America, needed a mobile experience that made browsing, identification, and comparison fast and reliable on both major platforms, backed by a web presence for the wider community.

What We Built

Native iOS (Objective-C) and Android (Java) apps giving mushroom hunters access to the most complete catalogue of wild mushrooms and fungi across Europe and North America — over 2,600 photographs spanning 1,650 species, all collected in the wild by the expert behind the brand. The apps support identification and learning, alongside networking features that let mushroom hunters connect with each other. A PHP and CodeIgniter web backend manages the catalogue and the community-facing web presence. As the Full Application Lifecycle Management partner, exbisoft has owned the platform end to end — design, native development on both platforms, backend, and ongoing support.
