The Challenge
A group of medical products and surgical instruments companies needed a unified ERP system that could operate across multiple legal entities, countries, currencies, and cost centres — from a single platform. Off-the-shelf ERP solutions either lacked the regulatory depth required for medical devices or could not handle the multi-tenant, multi-facility architecture the group demanded. Batch, lot, and serial number tracking had to be built into every transaction, not bolted on as an afterthought. Labelling had to comply with both EU UDI regulations and FDA requirements — non-negotiable in an industry where a mislabelled product is a regulatory incident, not a minor inconvenience.
The group needed a system that could grow module by module, go live with what was ready, and continue developing what was not — without disrupting operations already running in production.
What We Built
MedERP — a web-based, multi-tenant ERP platform built on .NET MVC with a Xamarin-based mobile application, backed by SQL Server and hosted on a private Windows cloud. The architecture supports multiple tenants, currencies, countries, and facilities from a single codebase, with cost-centre separation built into every financial transaction.
The platform enforces batch, lot, and serial number tracking throughout the product lifecycle. Every unit of inventory — from raw material intake through manufacturing, warehousing, and shipment — carries full traceability. The labelling engine generates EU UDI-compliant and FDA-compliant labels, handling the different identifier formats, data carriers, and regulatory requirements of each jurisdiction.
Live modules currently in production:
- Administration — tenant management, user roles and permissions, multi-facility configuration, currency and country setup
- Product Management — product master data, variants, batch/lot/serial definitions, regulatory classifications, and UDI/FDA label configuration
- Sales — quotations, sales orders, pricing by currency and customer group, multi-country tax handling
- Shipping — dispatch planning, shipment tracking, packing lists with full traceability references, carrier integration
- Internal Orders — inter-facility transfers, internal requisitions, and cost-centre-to-cost-centre movements
- Sales Finance — invoicing, credit notes, payment tracking, multi-currency receivables, and cost-centre-level reporting
In development or planning:
- Purchase — supplier management, purchase orders, goods receipt with batch/lot capture
- Inventory — warehouse management, stock movements, reorder points, batch/lot/serial stock queries
- PPS (Production Planning & Scheduling) — production orders, bills of materials, capacity planning, shop-floor tracking
What It Delivers
- Single platform serving multiple legal entities, countries, currencies, and facilities — no duplicate installations or data silos
- Batch, lot, and serial number tracking embedded in every transaction from product creation through shipment
- EU UDI and FDA-compliant labelling generated directly from product master data — no manual label design per SKU
- Modular rollout: live modules operate in production while new modules are developed and onboarded without downtime
- Mobile access via Xamarin app for warehouse and shipping operations where desktop access is impractical
- Cost-centre-level financial visibility across facilities, enabling group-wide reporting and per-facility P&L
- Private cloud hosting on Windows infrastructure, meeting the data residency and control requirements of the medical device industry
